You will have all seen the dramatic and distressing images of the Darling which appear on the home page. These were provided by professional photographer and FWUA member Mark Ingram to assist us in our campaign. We are truly grateful for his generous support.

If any other members have taken photographs illustrating the need for action, and would be willing to have them uploaded to the site, please let us know on the forum or via This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

I visited Louth, down stream from Bourke NSW today to have a look at the Darling river and I was really stunned at how much the the level has dropped.
I have attached an image which displays how high the water level was in January this year, shown by the green growth alaon the opposite bank.
It doesn't look too good, the flow has slowed.

Why does this site use images of the upper Darling as if this is where the problem is. Check your facts folks. Based on long term average inflows the health of the lower system is not dependent on flows from the upper Darling. And the Darling has been just as dry before eg 1902 and probably a few times rom 1918 to 1949 when no diversion occured in Qld etc.

If you are all serious about saving the lower system, forget about diversions on the lower Warrego and the large % of flow extraction in Qld last summer and focus on extraction reductions in the Murray and Murrumbidgee where even today both rivers are flowing strongly (but of course pictures of them do not make for good support for the argument).

Hi RW,

The reason I joined FWU was because it is not only concerned about the lower lakes etc , but the health of the entire system. The state of the Darling is a result of unsustainable exploitation of its head waters - with drought superimposed. No, it is not just about the Darling, but it is also certainly not just about drought.

I suggest that Rear View takes a look at an item on last night's ABC Lateline:
